Is Human Appendix On The Left or Right?

Look no further for the answer. It is on the right side.
The end of the answer? Yes.
The end of this post? .... Allow me to talk a bit more la..... Please~~

Appendix is said to be a rudimentary (extra) and doesn't have any proper function. But well, although that's not exactly right, the removal of appendix is usually fine.

The appendix or Appendix Vermiformis (meaning worm like appendage) is a small appendage (extra thing) hanging out from Caecum (beginning of large intestine) just at about the junction where the small intestine opens into large intestine. In a simpler way to say it, small intestine comes into the large intestine, and there the appendix is just below.
And that is the right lower area of your abdomen.

In animals, it has a role in digestive functions, but in human, many doubt that it is even needed. For what we currently know, is maybe in human, it helps in immune functions where it is fairly rich in immune cells, and the storage of good bacteria, that can repopulate the large intestine after a bad diarrhea or other diseases.

Appendicitis is the inflammation of appendix. The appendix becomes swollen, red and painful, and if left untreated, the consequence can be even fatal, as it eventually bursts and causes peritonitis, sepsis and other complications.
So Appendicitis is a medical emergency and should be attended to as soon as possible. If you cannot be sure, please do not delay going to seek medical attention.

While the reason behind the cause of appendicitis is still unclear, the progress of appendicitis is very well studied.
When you visit a doctor for a likely appendicitis, you can be sure all doctors (as evil as always) will ask you where is the pain, and proceed to press on the most painful part. I here apologize on behalf of all the doctors here, as that is definitely necessary.
Clinical examination is the gold standard for diagnosing appendicitis for now. Although ultrasound and CT scan can help, physical examination stays as the main method.
A doctor will press on 9 imaginary areas on your abdomen starting from the least painful area until he/she comes to the most painful area, then he/she will suddenly let go of his/her hand and asks if that is more painful. This is what we call as the rebound tenderness, which is one important sign in any inflammation in the abdomen.

Treatment for appendicitis is almost always surgical operation, whether it be laparotomy or laparoscopic, and the recovery is normally within one month. I'm not going to discuss too much about its removal here, but do discuss with your surgeon on that. Most cases without complications, but there are exceptions too.

There are cases, where operation cannot be done (eg, high risk for operation, no facility available, willful patient etc). And for such cases, strong antibiotics will be given, and fairly successful. But those not operated on tends to recur repeatedly and goes away, which in the end to be operated on too.

Lastly, a myth to debunk is: exercising after meal causes appendicitis. Currently there is no evidence or statistically not proven to be connected. Does that mean we can go on and with vigorous activities after meal?
Of course not, it is definitely not healthy to be physically active after meals. So don't do that ya.
